"A sound that falls somewhere between the whispered minimalism of the XX and the glitchy percussion and abrasive electronica that characterised Portishead's recent work..Donnelly is ever the focal point and she manages a charming vulnerability a la Bjork while retaining control of each song..a performer who is naturally captivating" - The Line of Best Fit
This EP features Electro and Progressive House remixes of Fool from the Laki Mera album 'The Proximity Effect” from remix luminaries Bangatang, Sezer Uysal and Ad Brown.
Emerging from the hotbed of diverse musical scenes that Glasgow offers Laki Mera merge electronic and acoustic to create their own particular style of music. They take their name from 'the Chimera', an illusion, a fleeting glimpse of a reality beyond. With both BBC Radio 2 Dermot O'Leary and a BBC Radio One Scotland sessions in the bag, a full Scottish tour, London, regional dates and festival dates all in the mix, this and is on the launch ad for great things.
Fronted by the 'angel voiced' Laura Donnelly, her spine chilling vocals layer over tight glitchy dark beats sounds and pumping bass, accompanied by an array of acoustic instruments, an undulating, rhythmic, floating, powerful, spacious, energetic sound. Sweeping electronic synths, hazy strings and drum beats merge into a pristine glistening sound, almost neo-classical at one end and at another maintaining a strong pop edge which has drawn the band critical comparisons with a diverse range of acts including the Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, XX and Portishead.
Sezer Uysal's remix of Fool makes stunning use of Laura's vocals and the acoustic strings of the orignal.
